- diameters 9.7 and 9.9cm, 3 3/4 and 3 7/8 in
circular, the first painted with Anna wearing a red turban and pearl earring, the second with St. Cecilia flanked by Sts. John the Evangelist, Paul, Augustine and Mary Magdalene, the first with lid and base numbered: 863, the second with lid and base numbered: 5582, each lid titled, the first base with Mark IX, the second base with Mark VII
Catalogue Note
The same image of Anna Perenna appears in variant colours on a box illustrated in D. Richter, Lackdosen, 1988, no. 204, and on a tôle peint plaque attributed to Stobwasser which sold, Christie's South Kensington, 20-21 October 1992, lot 548A.
Raphael's Ecstasis of St. Cecilia of 1514 is is the Pinacoteca Nazionale, Bologna, and appears also on a box illustrated in J. Glanz, Historisches und Frivoles auf Lackdosen, 1999, p.33.
