rectangular, the lid painted with a lady in Renaissance costume and a bearded man offering her jewels under the curious gaze of her exotic servant, the sides and base in faux hardstone, in original card case, the lid titled, the base with Mark X
Catalogue Note
Louis Goldberg was born circa 1812 and was an apprentice portrait and landscape painter, as well as a gilder, from around 1826 to 1830. He may be the same Goldberg who was later in partnership with Meyer & Wried. See D. Richter, Stobwasser: Lackkunst aus Braunschweig & Berlin, vol. II, 2005, p. 99.
