Description

  • Austrian, late 19th century
  • height 24.8cm, 9 3/4 in
in the form of a perching bird, painted with white-spotted black feathers and pink head, holding an agate berry in its mouth, the right wing opening to reveal the white enamel dial and movement, the naturalistic base painted with a salamander and beetle

Condition

There are scattered enamel losses, some down to the metal, many of which are visible in the catalogue photo. The side not shown in the catalogue photo is in better condition but with a dent to the wing. The watch movement is present; we have not determined if it is in working order; minute hand lacking; no winding key. A most interesting object, somewhat crudely made and battered, but oddly appealing.
