A secrétaire à abattant stamped Moreau Louis XVI, circa 1780

mahogany, with a three quarter pierced galleried later veined grey marble top, above a frieze drawer applied with a gilt-bronze band and guilloche enclosing flowerheads, the fall-front opening to reveal a leather- lined writing surface and seven drawers, the lower section above a pair of cupboard doors opening to reveal a shelf with canted stop-fluted sides, on bracket feet; mounts later

Comparative Literature:
Pierre Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe siècle,  Paris, 1998, p. 594, illustrates a secretaire with identical panelling and fluted sides but with three drawers in the lower section instead of two doors.

A related secrétaire of similar form but with drawers in the lower section, was sold as lot 1074, Sotheby’s, Monaco, 21^st June 1987.
