Original canvas and the structure is sound.

The catalogue illustration is broadly representative but the colours are generally slightly more subtle in reality.
PAINT SURFACE
there are some minor spots of staining to the lower left corner, otherwise the paint surface is in excellent condition, clean with an even varnish.
ULTRAVIOLET LIGHT
ultraviolet light reveals some small patches of retouching to the bay horse's hind legs, another small area of retouching to the lower right corner.
FRAME
held in a plaster gilt frame in fair condition.
