A Rare Lega Mask, Democratic Republic of the Congo

of delicate proportions, the almost round, heart-shaped facial plane; fine aged dark brown patina with traces of red pigment.

This almost flat mask is distinguished by its rounded features and a reddish pigment applied to its surface that contrasts with the more common white kaolin. For a closely related mask see Cameron (2001: 184, fig. 9.13).
