first edition of the first book by the founder of french symbolism, 8vo, original wrappers printed in red and black, full black morocco by Paul Bonet, stamp-signed inside upper cover and dated 1959 inside lower cover, covers with brown, green, orange and grey onlays with hatching in blind together with abstract figure in dark green, light green, purple and red morocco onlays with additional white morocco crown on upper cover, lettered in gilt on spine, gilt edges, chemise and slipcase, black suede doublures

Catalogue Note

A pioneering work of modern Symbolist writing. Connolly includes Les Illuminations as his sixth 'key book' whilst noting that it was reprinted with Une Saison en Enfer in 1892.
