STRUCTURE
The canvas has been lined.
PAINT SURFACE
The general appearance is good. There is a mark to the lower left of the canvas, and a small area of abrasion in the extreme lower left corner, partially concealed by the frame.
ULTRAVIOLET
There has been extensive re-touching carried out, evenly distributed around the sky area.
FRAME
Held in a wooden frame.

Catalogue Note
The Sobraon was laid down in Aberdeen in 1866 for Lowther, Maxton & Co. of London. Made of iron and teak and weighing 2089 tonnnes she was the largest composite ship ever built.
