awalé, porté par quatre pieds massifs, composé de deux rangées de six cases circulaires, les poignées formées par deux coupelles. Profonde patine d'usage, nuancée, brun clair et noire.
Ce jeu, très populaire en Afrique de l'Ouest, puise ses origines millénaires dans l'Egypte ancienne et les pays arabes. Le plateau de jeu, ou "échiquier", sert de réceptacle aux pions déployés par le joueur d'une coupelle à l'autre, en essayant de capter ceux de son adversaire.
