en cuir tanné et peint, de forme ovale, convexe. La face, divisée par une bande centrale, est ornée de motifs rayonnants peints sur fond rouge d'un côté, et brun de l'autre. La poignée patinée, sculptée dans un bois arqué, est fixée au revers par des liens en cuir. Belle patine d'usage avec traces de pigments rouges au revers. 



Les motifs des boucliers Masaï permettaient d'identifier le statut du porteur tandis que leurs couleurs signifaient leurs qualités, comme ici le rouge, symbole de courage.

Condition

Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture. Slight scratches on the leather. Very superficial loss on the leather, on the right part (approximately 2cm in diameter) as evidenced by the catalogue illustration.
