Le cuilleron piriforme est porté par un manche finement ouvragé, découpé à jour de zigzags agencés de part et d'autre d'une nervure centrale, et orné de motifs points cercles noircis, caractéristiques. Très bel équilibre de la forme et du décor ; superbe patine nuancée, brun rouge, profonde.

Condition
Good condition overall. Wear consistent with age and use within the culture.
A few minor hairline cracks. Some superficial surface scratches, the longest of which is on the convex side of the bowl, approximately 1cm long.

Catalogue Note
Cette cuiller se distingue par ses dimensions remarquables, par la qualité de son décor géométrique ajouré et par sa très belle patine brun rouge. Les cuillers kalukili étaient utilisées dans le cadre du Bwami, et intervenaient dans les danses, portées sur l'épaule, caressées, ou encore utilisées occasionnellement pour nourrir symboliquement un masque dans le rite nkunda (Biebuyck, 2002 : 196). Son importante dimension indique que cette cuiller devait vraisemblablement appartenir à un initié du plus haut rang du Bwami.
