Catalogue Note

An early advocate of mechanized club production, Spinks introduced machinery that produced fully complete clubs in a very short period of time while still ensuring accuracy and finish. His design for attaching the shaft to the clubhead was intended as an improvement on the Anderson design (see lot 200).  Spinks socketed the shaft deeply into the head and bound the junction with a brass ring, through which he hammered a rivet. Additionally, this method eliminated the need for whipping. Only example of its kind known.
