- A PAIR OF CHARLES II STUMPWORK PICTURES, LATE 17TH CENTURY
- 16.5cm x 26cm and 17cm x 27cm
the satin ground worked with a variety of stitches and techniques and padded silk faces, one depicting a nobleman on horseback being welcomed to a castle by a trumpeter and the other depicting a nobleman on horseback and his companion approaching a town with a young woman seated on the ground near the entrance
Condition
Item 1 - Possiblility that the upper and lower section were from different pieces originally but both early, requires conservation, discolouration, some small holes to cloth, small losses, two old pins put in and left ,early frame has losses and woodworm holes and general damage to edges
Item 2 - Possibility as with companion that the upper and lower section originated from different items, discolouration and wear to fabric, small areas worn through, there is some separation at the join line of the scenes, early frame has some losses. Woodworm holes and general damage
