A SOUTH SEA KESHI PEARL NECKLACE

Estimate
35,000 - 40,000 AUD
bidding is closed

Description

the single graduated strand composed of twenty-five pearls measuring in length 14.5mm to 25.5mm, width from 9.6mm to 11.5mm, each pearl of silver-rose to golden colour, completed with an 18 carat gold barrel-shaped clasp grain-set with brilliant-cut diamonds

Keshi pearls are formed when the oyster rejects and expels the implanted nucleus before the culturing process is complete.  This leaves a partially formed pearl which may continue to develop without a nucleus.  The resulting pearl is one hundred percent nacre which gives an especially lustrous and shimmering surface quality.

Most Keshi pearls have a greater lustre than the best quality cultured pearls.

Condition

Colour varies from silver rose to golden mixed on most pearls, lustre very good to high.
