with its preposterously stylish wig and delicately-rendered velvet jacket, this is a fine example of European aristocratic portraiture at the turn of the 18th century. Although the history of the picture and the identity of the sitter are not known, the style is that of the Swedish painting Hans Hysing (1678 - 1752).
