the carved classically inspired backboard incorporating stylised foliage and scrolling above a single shelf with turned column supports over two rounded front drawers situated above a pair of panel doors and raised on four turned feet, impressed stamp  'J.Sly' , twice to rear

Good colour and patina, lock missing, normal wear consistent with age.

Catalogue Note

Joseph Sly  (1802 - 1887) was born in London and arrived in Sydney in 1834 and started his furniture business in Pitt Street in 1835, he retired in 1861. Joseph Sly is recorded as having provided furniture to a number of prominent colonial families including James and William Macarthur at Camden Park NSW and Dr Bowman at Lyndhurst, Glebe.
