A large inscribed stone Buddhist stele
Early Tang dynasty, dated 660 AD
carved with Buddha seated atop a lotus base rising from a column set upon a further lotus pedestal, holding a jewel up to the chest with legs crossed and hidden beneath the cascading folds of the robes, the rounded head with elongated eyes and small bud mouth framed by the flattened hair and domed ushnisha, the whole backed by an integral peaked mandorla and raised on a rectangular block-base inscribed to the front with a long inscription dated xianqing si nian (corresponding to 660 AD)
