in the form of a bearded scholar seated in contemplation against pierced rockwork, holding a scroll in one hand, the other resting on his knee drawn up beside a small deer, lying recumbent with its head turned back toward the pensive sage, the celadon-white stone skillfully carved to make use of the black and russet inclusions over the rock and deer, respectively, wood stand (2)
