Catalogue Note

Inspired by trips to remote areas of Western China, Wu Zuoren is well known for his free-styled and vivid depictions of yaks and camels. A similar painting of yaks in the desert is illustrated in Mayching Kao (ed.), Twentieth-Century Chinese Painting, Hong Kong, 1988, p. 25.  Compare also one sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 17th November 1988, lot 150; and another sold on 17th February 1984, lot 72.
