Condition

The work is in excellent condition, the canvas is lined, at the left near the frame the canvas seems stretched, and a little pressed. Light craquelure throughout. UNDER UV: areas of inpainting mostly in the sky behind the head of the horse, near the church and near children. Central figure untouched, some inpainting on dress of girl and dog. A few other small areas but minor.

Catalogue Note

Dr. Ford was the vicar of Melton Mowbray for forty-five years and was celebrated in the town for his sense of humor and enjoyment of the hunt.
