Condition

The following condition report was kindly provided by Simon Parkes Art Conservation, Inc.: This picture is generally in lovely condition. The canvas appears to be unlined, although the reverse of the original canvas is painted. The paint layer is stable. The varnish is quite uneven and greasy and improvements could be made if the picture were to be lightly cleaned and re-varnished. If the paint layer is cleaned, a few retouches may be dislodged in the tail of the horse and in some of the very soft transparent glazes in the shadows around the horse. However, for the most part it seems that the figures, architecture and sky are in beautiful shape and if there are any other retouches they are very minor. The few small retouches address some paint shrinkage on the neck on the upper chest of the woman in green. Generally the picture is in a lovely state.
