reeded rectangular with sapphire thumbpiece, applied with a gold crowned cypher AM / 1888 in Cyrillic to one side, a crowned C / Sydney on the other, 84 standard, the handwritten note on the interior: Presented by H.I.H The Grand Duke Alexander of Russia / to H.E. Lord Carrington / G[ovenor of] New South Wales / Sydney Nov. 20. 1888

Condition
The match striker is loose from the vesta section. There are surface scratches consistent with age and use. The paper on the inside is torn.
