An Order of St Anne Aviation dagger 'For Bravery', Imperial Arsenal, circa 1914

the double-edged steel blade etched with the Imperial Eagle, inescutcheon with the arms for Moscow, a propeller and sword, the other side with hydro-planes, the hilt applied with an enamel Order of St Anne and chased with the cypher for Alexander III, the crosspiece engraved For Bravery in Cyrillic, the leather sheath with two suspension rings

This is in overall good condition, bearing signs of wear consistent with age. The metal is tarnished in places and the leather worn on the cover.

Starting from the reign of Alexander III, graduating officers were presented with daggers, or 'Kortiks', mounted with the cypher of the reigning Tsar, this is documented by A.N. Kulinsky, author of Russkoye Holodnoye Oruzhiye, XVII-XX vv.  The officer to whom this Russian 'Kortik' was presented graduated during Alexander III's reign. He later became an aviator, hence the engraving of the hydro-planes, and during the reign of Nicholas II received the St. Anne award for bravery.
