decorated with pink opaque enamel reserves bordered within white opaque and green translucent enamel borders above bands of red gold and rose-cut diamonds, set with an amethyst, with workmaster's initials, 56 standard

The vinaigrette egg pendant offered in this and the following lot are rare and it is unusual to find two presented for auction. The other known example was previously held in the collection of William Kazan and is illustrated: M.Y. Ghosn, Collection William Kazan - Objets de Vertu par Fabergé, Paris, 1996, no.152. Lot 431 was owned by the Great-Aunt of the current owner, Jane Little, who was employed by Russian aristocracy as a nannie. Around the time of the Revolution she fled to Paris with her two young charges, believed to be princes.  Whilst travelling on the train she wore an Army great coat, concealing jewels and purportedly this egg pendant.
