The Nativity, possibly St Petersburg, 18th century

depicting the Adoration of the Magi above, the Shepherd confronting Joseph and the Flight into Egypt below, with a fine cast and chased silver-gilt oklad, borders with foliate motif, first half of the 19th century, St. Petersburg, 84 standard

There are three horizontal cracks measuring 27cm., 11cm and 17cm., consolidated. There is evidence of overpainting to the figures throughout. There are areas of craquelure especially to the borders and elsewhere to the centre of the icon. There is a further very minor spot of paint loss to the lower right figure and some general wear to the gilding. There is general denting to the oklad especially to the edges and the pins are lacking. We would recommend prospective buyers to view this lot.
