Catalogue Note

Mikhail Larionov painted distinctive Impressionist landscapes during his early career, circa 1904 to 1908, and again in the 1930s, after years of vanguard experimentation and theatrical design. His two Impressionist periods are often difficult to distinguish, yet the present lot appears to date to the later period, circa 1930s. On the Park Bench demonstrates an exceptional level of quality for his mature period--something rarely seen at auction.
