Serebriakova painted many still-life compositions in the early thirties, as she continued to underscore the warmth and intimacy of domestic life, just as she had done in her earlier depictions of the family sphere. Painting with thick impasto and a bold palette, she represented what few artists could have--the tangible rhythm and real sensuality of the inanimate object.
