Catalogue Note
Harlamoff only painted independent still life compositions in his late career. Most are dated 1915 or later.
Even in the 20th century, Harlamoff signed his paintings in Cyrillic, and the fact that this work was signed in Latin suggests that it was intended for a Western collector. The artist catered to both the Western and Eastern European art markets; although steady British trade provided him with financial comfort (which many of his Russian colleagues envied), he continued to supply his home market in Russia with many paintings, and he continued to participate in the annual Peredvizhniki exhibitions.
