  • 5 1/4 x 7 in. 13.2 x 17.8 cm
the silver kiot with nielloed and gilded wings, one wing with St. Dmitri, Metropolitan of Rostov, the  other wing with Saints Daria and Christopher,  the back inscribed in Cyrillic, "This subject of the Mother of God with gold oklad and silver kiot is blessed and presented by Duchess Anna Vasilievna Gagarina, née Saltykova, to her nephew, Sous-Colonel of Cuirassier Regiment, Dmitri Adamovich Olsouffiev, on the  occasion of his wedding in Moscow to Daria Alexandrovna, 28th September, 1786," inset with an icon of the Mother of God Rudenskaya,  the gold oklad repoussé and finely chased with cherub heads and with scrolls and foliage, maker's  initials A.T., Assay-master Cyrillic initials V.A., Postnikova-Losseva, no. 2084, Alderman, Cyrillic initials A.O.V., Postnikova-Losseva no. 2135

Catalogue Note

Anna Vasilievna Saltykova, wife of  Matvei Alexeievich Gagarin, was born 24.VI.1729 and died 16.V.1799.  Dmitri Adamovich Olsouffiev, prominent Moscow nobleman, was born 21.IV.1769 and died 20.XII.1818. His father, Adam Vasilievich (1720-1784) was State Secretary of Catherine the Great.
