Description

  • height 82cm., diameter 79cm.
the top inlaid with a large porcelain plaque painted with Napoleon in Imperial robes, the border cast of brass with sixteen oval medallions incorporating porcelain plaques, fifteen of which portray the emperor's generals, the sides and triangular shaft veneered in mahogany and applied with swans and female allegorical figures

Reputedly Marquis August de Boos (born 1864 near Lille); Family (Ernst) von Sieglin- (Eleonora) Elbers; during the 1930's and 40s part of the interior of the Marmorsaal of the (von Sieglin family-) villa Weissenburg in Stuttgart; thence by descent; exhibited on loan Düsseldorf, Stadtmuseum from 1993-2006

Condition

Minor wear to gilding of central porcelain plaque. The pink oval cartouches and portrait medallions with very fine craquelé within the glaze layer, hardly visible. The wooden rim below the top with horizontal cracks of dryness. The triangular shaped support with minor veneer restorations and minor rim frittings, some parts slightly bleached. Set with three different bronze ornaments, two with winged female figures and trumphet and one female figure with vase. Attractive piece and recommenable piece.
