Catalogue Note
This piece is modelled after a Beromünster commode, circa 1740, sold by Sotheby's Zurich on 11 June 2001, lot 29: The form of the body with its curved front and bevelled front edges as well as ebonised profiles and pressed ball feet show that this form of a chest of drawers was developed by Beromünster masters in the mid 18th century. Further characteristic for this might be floral and figurative motif filled parquetry cartouche. Also hunting scenes are found on other supposed Beromünster furniture, whereby each figure is typically on a small panel with a cut out landscape of trees.
