Description
- a portrait of Friedrich II, also known as der Alte Fritz (1712- 1786), standing half length, wearing a uniform
- oil on canvas, unlined
- 79 by 60.5 cm.
Condition
The illustration in the catalogue is representative for the actual painting, however the colours of the painting are slightly warmer in tone. The canvas is unlined, but reinforced with several canvas patches on the reverse. The canvas has been flattened and dry. A small hole is visible in the lower right , as shown in the catalogue illustration. Filled and restored damages visible throughout, e.g. in the face, hair and orange band. The paint surface is covered with a dirty and glossy varnish layer.
Inspection under UV confirms abovementioned restorations as well as additional retouchings in the hat, the sitter's uniform and in the background. Offered in a gilt wood frame. (JD)
