Description
- Giuseppe Nogari
- an elderly woman, holding a stick
- oil on canvas
- 50.5 by 41.2 cm.
Condition
The actual painting is a bit warmer in tone than the illustration in the catalogue suggests. The canvas has been relined. Some older paint losses which have been coarsely over painted can be seen to the background, e.g. upper left and centre right, as well as some discoloured retouchings, e.g. in the figure's face and on her right shoulder. The paint surface is a bit flattened, due to the relining and slightly worn in places. The paint surface is under a very thick layer of varnish as well as under a fine layer of dirt. Inspection under ultra violet light partly impeded by the varnish layer, but does confirm the retouchings as mentioned above. Offered in an ornately carved gilt wood frame, with a few chips and paint losses. (MW)
