Provenance
Sigmund Graf Adelmann von Adelmannsfelden (1876 -1926), Villa Adelmann, Ellingen;
Thence by descent to the present owner.
Condition
The actual painting is a bit warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel seems to consist of two planks, joined vertically, reinforced by battons to the reverse. The panel is slightly bowed. There's a very tiny pinhole in the lower right centre, in the boy's leg. A vertical scratch of approximately 4 cm. can be seen to the lower left centre. There are some minor paint losses along the edges. Some older paint losses along the left edge have been restored and retouched. The paint surface is slightly abraded to the background. A fewdamages can be seen in the upper part. Discoloured retouchings can be seen , e.g. in the faces of the figures, and in the child, as well as in the background and in the drapes. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals these small retouchings throughout. Offered in a decorative, plaster gilt wood frame in fair condition. (MW)
