Woven with an equestrian figure on a white mount with gold fringed saddle cover, golden stirrups and harness which is embellished with bow tied blue ribbon, the red cloaked rider holding a white pendant with a shaped cartouche enclosing family coat-of-arms of Velasco of Castile and surmounted with a crown, the top section with a border with a floral and foliate swag held by blue ribbon to a golden hoop in each corner, with naked putti balancing from the swag and a cuirassier's armour, on a dark brown ground

Armorial tapestries were popular commissions and often produced in duplicate. They were frequently used as "portières" or door tapestries, hanging in the doorways back to back, or on balconies during pageants or religious processions.
