The actual painting is darker in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The canvas has an old relining. The surface has suffered from abrasion throughout and a more pronounced craquelure pattern is visible, especially in the centre background. Minor spots of paint loss in the upper right and scattered tiny spots all over. Spots of old retouchings and filled damages visible throughout. The paint surface is under a dirty varnish layer. Inspection under UV light confirms the aforesaid retouchings and reveals some additional retouchings throughout, especially in the centre and lower right of the composition. Offered in a decorative gilt wood frame which is damaged along the right side. (JD)
