Circle of Carel de Moor

Estimate
4,000 - 6,000 EUR
bidding is closed

Description

  • Carel de Moor
  • a portrait of a gentleman, bust length, wearing an embroidered red robe with a white chemise, in a painted oval
  • oil on canvas
  • 68.3 by 58 cm.

Condition

The actual painting is less bright and has less contrast in the colours than the illustration in the catalogue suggests. The canvas is relined. Due to the relining the paint surface is somewhat flattened, although some of the impastoes of the embroidery on the gown still remain. Due to dryness there is a slight tendency towards cupping. Inspection under UV-light is largely impeded by the varnish. The paint surface is covered with a dirty and discoloured varnish layer. Offered in a gilt wood frame, slightly worn. (JD)
