Description

  • a portrait of two young ladies holding roses, with putti in the background, in a classical setting
  • oil on canvas, laid down on board, octagonal
  • 86 by 99.5 cm.

Condition

The actual painting is a bit darker in tone and less bright than the illustration in the catalogue suggests. The canvas has been laid down on board. There are many paint losses, some of which have crudely been restored, e.g. in the face of the girl on the left, in the sky to the background. Larger over paintings can be seen to the background centre left and in the neck of the girl on the right. Flaking can be seen throughout, as well as discoloured retouchings. The paint surface is under a very thick layer of dirt. Inspection under ultra violet light confirms the retouchings as mentioned above. Offered in a modern, white wooden frame, octagonal shaped. (MW)
