Condition

The illustration is representative of the actual painting. The canvas has been relined, not as stated in the catalogue. The paint surface has grown very dry, which has resulted in significant paint losses, as can be seen in the catalogue illustration, especially in the girl's face, in her neck, on her dress and on her hat. There has been flaking throughout. Discoloured retouchings can be seen throughout, as well as older paint losses which have been filled, e.g. in the sky, in the flowers, in the fruit and in the dress. The paint surface is under a coarse craquelure pattern, which varies in places. The paint surface is under a dirty varnish layer. Inspection under ultra violet light confirms the retouchings as mentioned above. Offered in a simple wooden frame with a gilt painted fillet. (MW)
