Condition
The actual painting is warmer in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel consists of one plank, bevelled on all sides, and is enlarged to the left and right with a small woodstrip, probably to fit the frame. There are some very minor blemishes to the upper edge and some minor spots of paint loss in the upper right and along the lower edge. Tiny discoloured retouchings are visible to the naked eye in the lady's face and neckline as well as an inpaint on the hare's head. The paint surface is under a fine and dense craquelure pattern. However, two areas of more distinct craquelure can be seen in the centre. Otherwise the painting is in good condition. The paint surface is covered with a thick and glossy varnish.
Inspection under UV light is impeded by the varnish layer. Offered in a ornate gilt wood frame, with some small chips along the lower edge, in good condition. (JD)
