Alexander Keirinckx Antwerp 1600 - 1652 Amsterdam

The actual painting is a bit more brown in tone than the illustration in the catalogue suggests. The panel consists of two planks joined horizontally. The join is visible to the front and has been filled and retouched. The panel has been cradled and is bevelled on all sides. There are small blemishes and minor paint losses throughout, e.g. along the right and left edges. There is a small crack of approximately 4 cm. in the upper right corner and a small dent in the centre right of the tree. There is a tendency towards cupping, e.g. in the centre area underneath the tree and above the trees in the sky. The paint surface seems to be in good condition. It has grown a bit thin. The under drawing is very nicely visible, especially in the tree trunks. The paint surface is under fine layer of dirt and an unevenly cleaned varnish layer. Small retouchings can be seen throughout, e.g. in the tree area. Inspection under ultra violet light is partly impeded by the dirty varnish layer, but does confirm the retouchings as mentioned above.
