Description
- Jan Weenix
- A hunting still life with a hare, two partridges and a huntingbelt, in a landscape setting
- illegably signed(?) or inscribed lower cente: Ross....W.....
- oil on canvas
- 80.2 by 72 cm.
Condition
The actual painting is darker in tone and has less contrast than the illustration in the catalogue suggests. The canvas is relined and is rigid. Due to the relining the paint surface has been flattened. The paint surface suffered from dryness and coarse craquelure pattern varies in places. Some tiny spots of restored paint loss are visible in the upper right. Inspection under UV-light is impeded by the varnish layer, which is very dirty and discoloured varnish layer. Offered in a fine (18th Century?) gilt wood frame, in good condition. (JD)
