Drypoint and aquatint printed in colors, 1896-97, a uniquely colored proof impression of the fifth (final) state, signed in pencil, on pale blue-green laid paper, with full margins, in good condition, framed

Catalogue Note

The vibrant colors in this example differ from the edition, which utilized a cooler, primarily green, palette. There is some disagreement regarding the number of existing impressions of the final state; Breeskin calls for an edition of 50 while Mathews & Shapiro's text cites the location of only 12.  While an additional trial proof with an orange background and a red dress has been traced to a private collection, the present work is thought to be unique in coloration.
