Catalogue Note

The Shade and Shadow is one of Kira's most notable early works.  Dr. Kyo Koike, founder of the Seattle Camera Club in 1924, included the image in the December 1925 issue of Notan, the club's bimonthly publication.  The issue's caption lists six international salons in which the photograph had been exhibited. Later that year, The Shade and Shadow was one of four images by Kira published in the 1925 American Annual of Photography.
