Description

  • Harry Callahan
  • multiple exposure tree
mounted to Crescent illustration board, signed by the photographer in pencil on the mount, matted, framed, 1956

Provenance

Ehlers/Caudill Gallery, Chicago

To Andrew Roth at Glenn Horowitz Bookseller, East Hampton, New York

Acquired by Nancy Richardson from the above, 1997

Condition

This delicately composed early print is in generally excellent condition. The photograph's mount, Crescent illustration board, is a light-gray color on the front and a creamy-white on the reverse. The edges of the mount are lightly rubbed. The mount is hinged to the mat with two strips of linen tape at the top corners. The back of the mount is annotated 'HC-19.1' in an unidentified modern hand in pencil. As stated on the receipt from Horowitz Bookseller, this is a vintage contact print, mounted by the artist in 1956, and signed by him in 1997. When examined with a black light, this print faintly but perceptibly appears to fluoresce.
