Condition

The actual painting is a bit deeper in tone than the catalogue illustration suggests. The panel, which is cradled, consists of 3 planks, joined horzitally. The joins are visible to the front and have been retouched. Thinness can be observed in the brown parts. Strengthening can be seen in the barrel to the left. Retouchings can be seen to the lower left and the lower right near the fire. Furthermore in the foreground, the upper edge, the building and the figures. The cape of the central figure appears to be mostly overpainted. Inspection under ultra violet light reveals extensive retouchings throughout. Offered in a carved and gilt wood frame, slightly worn.
