Description

  • Sir Peter Paul Rubens
  • The judgement of Salomon
  • oil on panel

Condition

The panel has two large cracks running horizontally, one just above centre and one just below centre. The panel has strips of wood which secure the splits in the panel. There is paint loss towards the centre of the upper and lower edges, with some minor spots elsewhere. There are minor chips to the extreme edges and minor frame abrasion. There is a very minor surface crack to the lower left section. There is craquelure throughout. Ultraviolet light reveals minor retouching to some of the figures' faces as well as to the cracks in the panel. Held in a simple wooden frame in fair condition.
