Catalogue Note

This drawing, which was formerly attributed to Jan van Huchtenburg, can be compared with a signed watercolour on vellum by Calraet, sold, London, Sotheby's, 5 July 2000, lot 301.  No other drawings by the artist are known, so the attribution remains somewhat tentative, but the overall approach to composition and the treatment of details such as the riders' faces, are similar.

Offered together with a drawing Attributed to Barent Calraet (Dordrecht 1649 - 1737) Cavalry in a fierce battle, watercolour over black and red chalk, within brown ink framing lines, 204 x 299mm.
