Condition
A) Unframed. A horizontal crease along the upper edge of the sheet. There are some very small light stains in the upper corners, and a little surface dirt. The overall condition, however is quite good.
B) Unframed. A diagonal crease across the upper corners, and some abrasion to the lower right corner. A very small nick at the centre of the upper edge. Some slight surface dirt. Otherwise the condition is fine, and the media is still strong.

Catalogue Note
A series of drawings by van der Schalcke, sharing the same media and dimensions as the present sheet, similarly numbered on the verso, and all probably originating from the same a sketchbook, was sold, Amsterdam, Sotheby Mak van Waay, 18 November 1980 (lots 52, 68-9, 85, 89, 102, 128, 134-5).
Offered together with a drawing of Jan van der Meer the Younger (Haarlem 1656-1705), herders with their animals in an italianate landscape, signed and dated in black chalk, l.l.: J. v der meer/de jonge .f. 1688, grey wash over black chalk, within black chalk framing lines, 282 x 432 mm.
