Catalogue Note

Bernard Johan Kerkhof was the director of the Koninklijke Maatschappij Wegenbouw in Utrecht (Royal Company of Civil Engineering) and between 1945-1950 chairman of the NVWB (association for civil engineering workers). In 1926 he wrote the standard work for this field of business entitled 'Wegenbouw', (Road building). Kerkhof was also active in the artsociety 'Kunstliefde' (love for art) in Utrecht and acted as chairman between 1937-1953. An award was named after him and is still awarded to young artists who are a member of this fellowship.
